A provincial government spokesman on Monday confirmed the late Sunday attack that also left 13 wounded in Gereshk district of the province.
“An explosive-laden motorbike was detonated through a remote-control device near an Afghan Local Police (ALP) checkpoint in Mirmandab area of Gereshk district Sunday evening, as a result two ALP policemen and three civilians lost their lives,” said Daud Ahmadi.
Violence has been on the rise in the war-torn country since Taliban launched an annual spring offensive on May 3.
On Sunday, at least six US soldiers were killed in a blast in eastern Afghanistan.
The increasing number of military casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war.
According to the website icasualties.org, a total of 228 foreign troops, 166 of them US personnel, have lost their lives in Afghanistan so far this year.
