A body found in a car south-west of Newcastle is being investigated for links to the death of a Hunter woman earlier this month.
Police said a crime scene was established at Watagan Forest Road, Cooranbong, after a passer-by located the body of a man inside the car at about 6.45pm on Sunday.
Although a formal identification had not yet taken place, it was believed to the body of Darren Fishburn, police said.
The 41-year-old was wanted for questioning following the discovery of his wife Tammy Sindermann’s body in Greta, north-west of Newcastle, by her daughter on February 7.
The 43-year-old woman was found lying on the ground in the shed at the rear of the Wyndham Street address. The couple had lived at the property with Ms Sindermann’s grandmother, its owner, for about two years.
Strike Force Wintervale was formed by local police with the assistance of the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad to investigate the woman’s death.
Initial results of a post mortem deemed the death as suspicious, police said.
Mr Fishburn had not been seen since the discovery of his wife’s body.
Police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death and will prepare a report for the coroner.
