China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin said on Thursday that Chinese and Russian diplomats have “thoroughly exchanged views” on the Iranian nuclear issue and the upcoming talks.
“The process of talks and negotiations currently stands at an important phase,” Liu said, calling on all relevant parties to bear in mind the overall direction of the negotiations.
“China has long been committed to promoting peaceful talks, and will continue to make joint efforts with other parties to promote the peaceful resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue through diplomatic measures,” he noted.
Iran and the six world powers wrapped up their meetings in Baghdad on May 24 after two days of negotiations.
The Iranian negotiating delegation was headed by Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili, and the delegations of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany were headed by the EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton.
Iran and the P5+1 have agreed to hold another round of talks in Moscow on June 18 and 19.
