A COUPLE in their 60s, dressed for bed, had suffered ”significant injuries” before being found dead in the bedroom of their Vermont South home.
Police said their 32-year-old son would be questioned over the ”suspicious death”, as would their daughter.
Neighbours said they had heard screams late on Thursday from the double-storey house.
Police said there had been domestic issues at the Yalita Road property in the past.
Homicide detective Ron Iddles said the bodies of the husband and wife, dressed in pyjamas, had been discovered by friends of the woman, when she did not report for work. The house was unlocked.
Senior Sergeant Iddles said the family had a history of ”domestic issues”.
”It’s being treated as suspicious because both appear to have significant injuries,” he said. He said police would interview the son, who was in an emotional state, after he was seen by a doctor.
”He may be involved, he may not be involved,” he said.
The couple’s daughter and two workmates were also speaking to police at the Nunawading station.
Neighbour Riston Silver said she heard screaming about 2am yesterday. ”It sounded like a woman,” she said. She decided against calling for help when the screaming stopped after about 10 seconds. ”We didn’t really think too much of it at the time.”
