Alexander Nicholas Petrelis has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, but guilty to causing grievous bodily harm.
The Supreme Court in Perth has heard a man was under the influence of amphetamines and had not slept for three days when he stabbed his estranged wife in a frenzied attack.
38 year old Alexander Nicholas Petrelis is on trial accused of attempted murder.
The court heard he went to his wife’s Karrinyup home late at night in December 2010.
He was invited inside, then grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her between 15 and 20 times in the chest, stomach and arm.
His lawyer told the court his client was under the influence of drugs and was angry, disappointed and frustrated, but did not mean to kill her.
Mr Petrelis has pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of causing grievous bodily harm.
Mr Petrelis’ brother Andrew died while in the police witness protection program in 1995.
