Eight men arrested on drugs charges in raids across Sydney’s west may be connected to a recent spate of drive-by shootings, police say.
Officers from Strike Force Ezzy hit five homes across Granville, Merrylands, Greystanes and Ermington on Friday afternoon, arresting eight men.
The men are said to be members of a syndicate that supplies methamphetamine and ecstasy to nearby suburbs.
Assistant Commissioner Frank Menilli has linked the group to a recent series of shooting attacks on homes and in public places in Sydney.
“We believe that this syndicate and their involvement with the drug trade has crossed over into some of the drive-by shooting incidents,” he told reporters in Sydney on Saturday.
During the raids, police allegedly located and seized over $50,000 in cash, prescription drugs including steroids, Valium and Xanax, cannabis, an expandable baton, a shotgun shell, 11 rounds of ammunition, a bayonet knife, five mobile phones and drug paraphernalia.
All eight men were refused bail.
