The 16-day-increment vegetation data of NASA from past 20 years was downloaded by Zoe Phin and her result says:
‘NASA’s Vegetation Index has risen from 0.0936 to 0.1029, which is a 9.94% increase’
“10% global greening in 20 years! We are incredibly fortunate!” Zoe comments on the results.
Our planet had been greening for three decades.
As per a German study, the world had been greening for the last 30 years.
The Sahara desert covers 9.2 million square kilometres and had shrunk by eight percent over the last 30 years as per a study by Venter et al in 2018.
More than 700,000 square kilometres or 8% of the area has become greener. This area is as big as France and Germany combined. This has been the nicest planet in terms of vegetation so far.
Most of us think that carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas is a huge problem, but it is not. In 2020, a study by Haverd et al was cited by Kenneth Richard who claimed:
“about 70% of the Earth’s post-1980s vegetative greening trend has been driven by CO2 fertilization” and that this greening will offset 17 years (equivalent) of the Earth’s anthropogenic CO2 emissions by 2100.
