Cline Cellar’s 2010 Cool Climate Chardonnay is a tricky little vixen. The nose is dancing with floral highlights and warm peach aromas that you half expect it to be a dessert wine. But this is one of my favorite Chardonnays right now. On the palette it’s like milk and honey, yet it remains clean and crisp. It’s surprisingly elegant for a wine just under $10. But you’ll want to drink this within a few years.
If you are looking for a wine to slay those heavier dishes, this is it. Cream sauces beware! And if you don’t eat dairy, don’t worry, this wine is vegan.
Owner Fred Cline said to me, “Just because you have pests, doesn’t mean you have to get rid of them. We don’t want to farm in a sterile environment.” For example, they use cover crops such as barley and oats to provide a haven for beneficial insects such as Predator Mites instead of synthetic pesticides. The winery is also 100-percent solar-powered, as is its sister winery, Jacuzzi Family Vineyards.
