‘Falling Skies’ season 3: Drew Roy on what’s next for Hal, Maggie, and Karen

“Falling Skies” season 3 may not premiere until June 9, but more and more information is coming out about what to expect. On Saturday, March 30, TV Equals talked to Drew Roy at WonderCon about what to expect this season for the 2nd Mass and for the love triangle (watch the video interview here).

As “Falling Skies” season 2 ended, we got a glimpse at that eye bug that changed Hal and left him smirking in the mirror, but what will happen with that in season 3? Well, first of all, the 2nd Mass is “kind of comfortable” in Charleston, Roy revealed, but things are far from perfect and the soldiers are far from safe. Information’s being leaked, so the aliens already know what they’re up to when they go out on missions. But where do Hal and that bug come in? And what about the new alien? Can they be trusted to be upfront about what they’re doing?

Meanwhile, after everything it took for Hal and Maggie (Sarah Carter) to get together in season 2, season 3 is going to see them as “basically a married couple,” and not the fun “honeymoon married” but the “we’ve been married for a while and we take care of each other,” Roy explained. And with everything going on with Hal, who knows there’s “something not quite right” about himself, and “it’s not only affecting him mentally but physically as well,” something that will be “apparently…the second time you see Hal.” Part of Hal and Maggie’s relationship this season is going to be her taking care of him, especially since his father now has a new role to play. But will Maggie be able to do anything? The actor previewed that Hal will “start tipping off into this dark side that we’ve never seen before.”

And when you talk about Hal, especially given what happened in the season finale, it’s hard not to wonder about what will happen when Karen (Jessy Schram) next shows up, and she will show up in the two-hour premiere on June 9. “As always, she’s up to something,” Roy teased. “She’s a big catalyst for storylines going on this season as always, and we have some pretty intense scenes together. It’s a side of Hal and Karen we’ve never seen before.”

“Falling Skies” season 3 premieres June 9. What are you hoping to see from Hal this season?
