Facebook announced Tuesday that Greg Maurer, a former aide to Speaker of the House John Boehner, will head up its House outreach efforts out of the company’s DC office.
On April 2, Maurer will join the Facebook team as Director of Public Policy, and lead the company’s House outreach efforts alongside Manager of Public Policy Chris Herndon.
Maurer “previously served as Director of Member Services for House Republican Leader John Boehner and was a longtime aide for Boehner during his chairmanship of the House Education Workforce Committee,” the company said in a statement. He was also previously Vice President for Corporate Public Affairs at UPS.
“At Facebook, we’re committed to explaining how our service works; the important actions we take to protect the more than 845 million people who use our service; and the value of innovation to our economy,” Facebook spokesman Andrew Noyes.
“It’s imperative that we scale our team in Washington so that we have the resources in place to demonstrate to policymakers that we are industry leaders in privacy, security and safety.”
Maurer will report to Joel Kaplan, Vice President of U.S. Public Policy and head of the Facebook DC office.
In February, Google added former GOP Representative Susan Molinari to head up its own DC office.
