Frankfurt airport strike continues

The strike, which grounded hundreds of flights last week, is set to continue for a third day on Monday.

Meanwhile, German labor unions urged the staff to halt their work for an additional 24 hours on Tuesday.

The wage dispute centers around 200 personnel. Germany’s GDF labor union called for strikes after Fraport, the company which owns and operates the airport, turned down mediation proposals in their dispute.

At least 223 flights were cancelled on Monday but 70 percent of the scheduled flights will take place as scheduled, a spokesman for Fraport said.

Workers at the airport are demanding pay rises, increased bonuses and reduced working hours.
