In his victory speech on Friday after he secured a landslide victory, the Respect Party politician invoked the Islamic Awakening movements which have toppled dictatorships across the Arab world and referred to his victory as the “Bradford Spring.”
“This represents the Bradford Spring,” said Galloway.
In the Bradford West by-election, caused by the resignation of Labour MP Marsha Singh who had held the seat for 15 years, Galloway gained over 55% of the vote share and defeated the Labour Party by over 10,000 votes.
Known for hosting Press TV’s the Real Deal and Comment shows, Galloway is an outspoken critic of the British government’s warmongering policies.
In 2003, Galloway was expelled from the Labour Party after expressing his opposition to invading Iraq. Following his expulsion from Labour, Galloway became a founding member of the left-wing Respect Party.
Speaking with Sky News, Galloway clearly said he will continue to oppose the British government’s “pointless” warmongering policies and urge an end to the tradition of “occupying other people’s countries.”
“We don’t have the blood to spare and we certainly don’t have the treasure to spare in Britain to be going around the world occupying other people’s countries and having our young men come back in boxes. We’re spending hundreds of billions of pounds on setting fire to other people’s countries when we can’t keep our own pensioners warm in the winter time when we’re almost bankrupt,” Galloway said.
“So, I think one of the lessons of yesterday’s election result is that Britain wants out of Afghanistan and that’s of course one of the points I’ll be pressing when I return to the House of Commons,” he added.
