Gunmen kill six people in Pakistan

On Sunday, armed men killed at least four people at their home in the Matani area of Peshawar city in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.

At least one person was also wounded in the incident.

The attackers managed to escape from the scene and the police launched an investigation into the attack.

Separately, heavily-armed gunmen shot dead two people and injured three others in the southern Pakistani port city of Karachi.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but officials blame pro-Taliban militants who have carried out similar assaults in the past.

The militants have carried out numerous attacks against politicians as well as civilians and managed to spread their influence in various regions of the country, despite frequent offensives by the Pakistani Army.

On April 2, dozens of gunmen attacked a grid station in Peshawar and killed at least seven people.

Thousands of Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001 when Pakistan joined an alliance with the United States in the so-called war against terrorism.

Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan. Thousands have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping the country.
