Saeed continues to live openly in Lahore, untouched by Pakistani authorities,
who say there is no evidence to link him to terrorist activities.
He is a leading figure in the Defence of Pakistan Council, touring the country
with fellow hardliners who want to see Islamabad end all co-operation with
the West.
The meeting was also denied by the US embassy in Islamabad.
“Ambassador Munter has never met with Hafiz Saeed,” said a tersely
worded statement. “No US official has made any promises to, or
agreements with, Hafiz Saeed.”
