Severe thunderstorms have passed over western Sydney, leaving several damaged homes in their wake.
The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) was bombarded with 193 calls for assistance between 1.30pm and 3pm (AEDT) on Saturday as rain and hail lashed the region.
The Blue Mountains, western Sydney and Port Macquarie on the mid north coast were worst hit, with hailstones the size of 20 cent pieces damaging homes and cars.
A family were rescued from their flooded home at Hazelbrook in the Blue Mountains.
Most of the damage was caused to roofs and gutters, SES spokesman Dave Owens told AAP.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) at 3.30pm (AEDT) cancelled a warning for severe thunderstorms for the Sydney metropolitan, Illawarra and Northern Rivers regions.
The sun came out almost immediately after the storms.
“Weston (in the Hunter Valley) was hit too,” Renee Wheway posted on the SES Facebook page.
“Hail the size of 20 cent piece. Suns out now though. Very freaky.”
Lisa Maxwell from Hazelbrook wrote that her home was also flooded.
“The hail was large enough to cut and bruise,” Ms Maxwell said.
The storms were moving northeast in the late afternoon, with heavy hail and flash flooding predicted for the Mid North Coast, Hunter, Northern Tablelands and parts of the Northern Rivers on Saturday afternoon.
Locations expected to be affected include Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Taree, Newcastle, Gosford, Maitland, Armidale, Tenterfield and Tamworth.
