‘Horsegate’ scandal haunts British PM

During a press conference at the EU summit in Brussels, Cameron was forced to answer questions on the now controversial horse.

“A confusing picture has emerged”, he told journalists. “I’m very sorry about that.”

Speaking to reporters, the Prime Minister said confirmed he had ridden Raisa, a retired police horse that Brooks and her husband had loaned for two years. He explained that this riding session took place before the 2010 general election.

“A confusing picture has emerged over the last few days. I’m very sorry about that – I think my staff have had to answer a lot of questions about horses. Let me try to shed some light on it – I’ve known Charlie Brooks, the husband of Rebekah Brooks, for over 30 years and he’s a good friend, and he’s a neighbor in the constituency”, he said.

“I have not been riding with him since the election. Before the election, yes, I did go riding with him”, Cameron added.

Cameron, who went to Eton with Brooks’ husband Charlie, initially denied that he had rode ex-police horse Raisa, saying “since I have been PM I think I have been on a horse once and it wasn’t that one.”
