VICTORIA’S nursing dispute has gone global with Premier Ted Baillieu’s Delhi hotel targeted by Indian nurses.
About 30 Indian nurses gathered at Mr Baillieu’s Delhi hotel room to support their Victorian counterparts, who are locked in an industrial dispute with the State Government over nurse-patient ratios, pay and conditions.
Mr Baillieu flew to India on Monday to lead Australia’s largest ever trade mission.
Wearing red Australian Nursing Federation T-shirts, the Indian nurses chanted ”respect our work” as they carried a banner reading: ”Mr Baillieu don’t take away nurse patient ratios from Victorians”.
ANF state secretary Lisa Fitzpatrick said the Victorian nurses had friends across the world and had helped them to make their point by sending them red T-shirts in time for the Premier’s arrival.
”We have a lot of Indian nurses here in Victoria and they have friends and colleagues at home who they know and have trained with.
”There is a lot of international camaraderie around nurses.
”They knew that Mr Baillieu was going so we said we’d help in whatever way we can – it was fantastic.”
