Iran protests to US over visa waiver, saying it runs counter to JCPOA

Tehran, Dec 20, IRNA – Vice-President and head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization Masoud Soltanifar said on Sunday US Congress visa waiver for tourists visiting Iran runs counter to the context of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

Soltanifar told IRNA that according to the political and legal experts, the US Congress vote about visa waiver which included Iran is against general soul of the JCPOA.

Since it was agreed on July 14, the US Congress took antagonist acts against Iran.

He reiterated that after two years of intensive negotiations, Iran’s full implementation of all its commitments related to the JCPOA, closing the possible military dimensions (PMD) file with the IAEA and the UN Security Council resolutions lifted the unjustly imposed sanctions on Iran, the Iranian government supposed to see termination of the US hostile actions.

‘The Islamic Republic of Iran expects the parties to JCPOA to respond positively to Iran’s good faith and avoid passing visa waiver against tourists visiting Iran and not to create negative attitude about the US good faith about JCPOA.’

Asked about ICHHTO possible reaction with the UN World Tourism Organization, Sltanifar said that a letter will be forwarded to the UNWTO Secretary General Talib al-Rifaie to complain against the US.

‘It is our general policy to make objection seriously to such acts which will create obstacles to Iranian tourism industry,’ he said.
