ISIS has claimed responsibility for the Thursday night attack in Paris, France.
The terror group claimed one of the attackers, who’s now dead, was Abu Yusuf al-Beljiiki and had came to France via Belgium, according to its Amaq news agency.
At least two police officers are dead after the gunmen, armed with Kalashnikovs, opened fire on a parked police car on the busy Champs-Elysee near popular tourist destinations in France’s capital.
“I came out of the Sephora shop and I was walking along the pavement where an Audi 80 was parked. A man got out and opened fire with a Kalashnikov on a policeman,” Chelloug, a kitchen assistant, told Reuters. “The policeman fell down. I heard six shots, I was afraid. I have a two year-old girl and I thought I was going to die… He shot straight at the police officer.”
One of the gunman was killed and the other, reportedly a migrant named Youssouf El Osri, is on the run.
Osri, who was known to police as an extremist, had also just arrived from Belgium before the attack.
The shooting comes only just days before France’s presidential election.
