Israeli media reported that the officer, through his confidantes, claimed the
activist had previously struck him with a stick, breaking two of his
fingers.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the incident late on
Sunday.
The prime minister’s spokesman, Mark Regev, said the officer had been
suspended from his position pending an investigation.
“Let’s be clear here, this sort of behaviour is in stark contrast to our
norms and our values and is simply unacceptable,” said Regev.
The officer has been suspended whilst an investigation is carried out into the
incident.
