“The council evaluates the disqualification of candidates for each period going through their work experience and documents,” Abbas Ali Kadkhodaei told Press TV.
Iran’s Guardian Council, which is tasked with supervising the elections, has disqualified around 1,200 candidates, 35 of whom are lawmakers in the current parliament.
Kadkhodaei said less than five of the disqualified lawmakers have been reportedly involved in a recent bank scam case, the trial for which is underway.
The Iranian official added that the council will take proper measures to deal with any campaign violations and those who break the election law could still face disqualification.
The Guardian Council has approved the competence of more than 3,400 candidates competing for 290 seats in Majlis.
According to Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar, there are 48,288,799 people eligible to vote in the upcoming vote.
He added that more than 47,000 polling stations will operate nationwide during the elections.
