Steven Brooks was arrested on Sunday in Las Vegas, after police arrived at a home on Turtle River Avenue to probe reports of domestic battery.
“Brooks was agitated and refused to obey officers’ commands. When officers attempted to take Brooks into custody he fought with them, and at one point attempted to secure one of the officers weapons,” Las Vegas police said in a press release.
The statement also said that Brooks was subdued and arrested for “obstructing police officer… and battery; domestic violence.”
He was taken to the Clark County Detention Center on misdemeanor charges, but was later released on Sunday evening after posting USD 4,000 bail. His initial court appearance was scheduled on Monday morning.
The arrest came only days after the Assembly announced the creation of a committee to investigate Brooks’ behavior following series of bizarre incidents that began with his first arrest on January 19 for allegedly threatening Assembly’s Speaker-elect Marilyn Kirkpatrick.
The 40-year-old was arrested with a loaded gun at the time for intimidating a public officer by physical violence threat.
The Nevada State Assembly has recently faced turmoil after its former speaker lost his re-election bid. Brooks was hoping to be appointed as the head of the Assembly Ways and Means Committee, which monitors changes to the governor’s proposed budget. However, the position was later given to another lawmaker.
