High school students will be given multiple opportunities to boost their scores under new literacy and numeracy tests which will replace the Year 10 school certificate exams.
Under the new scheme, NSW pupils will be allowed to sit the tests up to five times between Year 10 and 12, News Limited reported on Thursday.
Students will then leave with credential called the record of school achievement (ROSA), which provides a list of their academic, vocational and extra-curricula achievements.
According to the NSW Board of Studies president Tom Alegounarias the online tests will be in place by next year.
The changes mean that if a student’s marks are poor the first time, they have the chance to improve them before leaving school.
“For literacy and numeracy tests the students can redo them – they will have two opportunities per year and they can stay on and have another go up until Year 12,” Mr Alegounarias said.
“There will be a different test each time and it will be the latest score that counts.”
