A P-PLATE driver has allegedly been caught speeding at more than 60km/h over the limit in Sydney’s north.
A 20-year-old man was in a blue Magna sedan on Burnt Bridge Creek Deviation, Seaforth when police allegedly caught him travelling at approximately 140km/h in an 80km/h zone about 4pm.
Police, who were patrolling as part of Operation Tortoise, said he was also allegedly travelling in a bus lane.
The man was fined for exceeding the limit by more than 45km/h – a $1915 fine.
Earlier, another P-plater was allegedly caught speeding at almost 70km/h over the limit and failed to stop for police in Sydney’s southwest.
A 21-year-old from Carramar was travelling west in the M5 in a black BMW when Liverpool Highway Patrol police clocked him at 167km/h in a 100km/h zone about 12.30am.
Police allege the man failed to pull over when signalled, instead speeding away.
Police initiated a pursuit which went off the M5 and onto the Hume Hwy at Hammondville where he stopped on the side of the road.
He was arrested by police and had his licence cancelled on the spot.
He was been charged with Skye’s Law (pursuit), exceed speed limit by more than 45km/h and drive in a manner dangerous.
He has been issued a court attendance notice and will appear at Campbelltown Local Court on May 3..
Traffic and Highway Patrol Command Inspector Phil Brooks said people needed to slow down.
The incident happened just half an hour into the start of Operation Tortoise.
“It is an extremely concerning start to the Easter safety campaign. If this type of driver behaviour continues over coming days, serious injury and death will be inevitable,” Insp Brooks said.
