KEEP an eye out Hobart – our princess is coming home.
For those out of the royal loop, Hobart-born Danish Crown Princess Mary is currently touring Australia and is expected back in Tasmania any second.
The Danish Royals are out in force for the visit, with Mary’s husband, Crown Prince Frederik, and their royal children Christian, Isabella and newborn twins Josephine and Vincent all in tow.
And while there has been no official word on her expected arrival in Tasmania, Hobart International Airport was yesterday swamped with local and interstate media – as well as some paparazzi – in high anticipation of the princess touching down in her home state.
Denmark’s future king and queen have already completed the official part of their Down Under tour, having completed their political and charitable duties in Sydney and Melbourne, and are now expected to take some time to relax and introduce the twins to Mary’s Tasmanian relatives.
The princess last visited the state in August last year – shortly after learning of her pregnancy with her now 10-month-old twins – and caused a media frenzy outside sister Jane Stephen’s home in West Hobart, where she was staying.
But despite the best efforts of media, Mary managed to fly under the radar during the solo visit, preferring to spend time with her sisters, Ms Stephens and Patricia Bailey, and celebrating the news of her pregnancy.
It is unknown where Mary and her family will be staying this time around, but the visit is expected to be a low-key, family affair with no official duties to fulfil.
They are expected to be in Hobart for at least a week, giving her Danish-Tasmanian children, and the state’s adopted Crown Prince, Frederik, plenty of time to visit Mary’s favourite local spots, with trips up to the East Coast and to MONA also on the cards.
