POLICE divers are searching sections of the Murrumbidgee River in southern NSW near where a seven-year-old boy fell in and disappeared.
A police spokesman said the search was continuing today for the missing boy, who fell into the fast-flowing river downstream of Wagga Wagga Beach yesterday while playing with friends.
He was swept downstream and his companions lost sight of him.
A police spokesman said the accident was not thought to be connected to the floods affecting parts of the state, although the river might have been flowing slightly faster because of recent heavy rain.
Helicopters, police and the State Emergency Service crews have so far failed to find the boy.
Heavy rain across NSW has already claimed the life of a three-year-old boy, who drowned early on Saturday afternoon when he was swept into a stormwater drain at Bingara, in the state’s north.
