Shooting victim staggers into hospital

A man has been shot in the leg in Sydney’s 10th shooting in as many days, while a teenager has been charged over the discovery of a pistol that could be linked to an earlier shooting spree.

The 20-year-old took himself to Westmead Hospital about 12.30am (AEST) on Wednesday after being blasted in the leg at Rosehill, in the city’s west.

It remains unclear exactly where the shooting took place and police say the victim has only partly co-operated with detectives.

“He is co-operating to an extent,” a police spokesman told AAP.

Macquarie Radio Network reported the man was known to police.

Rosehill Inspector Glen Parks said officers investigating the shooting were sent to an address in Granville but gave no further details.

“It’s early stages in the investigation and we have been to the hospital and we have spoken with this particular person,” Insp Parks told Macquarie Radio Network.

“We have obtained some information that is assisting us with our investigation.”

The state opposition says it is Sydney’s 10th shooting in 10 days.

The most recent shootings included a 24-year-old man who was shot in the stomach at Guildford, in Sydney’s west, on Tuesday afternoon, while a 29-year-old man was shot in the shoulder at a Kings Cross strip club on Monday.

Meanwhile, a teenager has been charged after police seized a gun they believe may be linked to four recent shootings.

Detectives raided a unit in James Street, Punchbowl, on Tuesday afternoon and seized a 9mm semi-automatic pistol with a loaded magazine, live cartridges, as well as steroids.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested and charged with possessing a prohibited pistol.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Parramatta Children’s Court on May 2.

Police are investigating whether the gun may have been used during the attempted murder of two men who were fired upon at a Rockdale shopping centre on December 13, 2011.

It may also be linked to drive-by shootings at homes at Auburn and Arncliffe on 9 January, 2012 and at a Rockdale tanning salon on 26 January, 2012.

Police say there are indications all four of those shootings may be linked.
