POLICE investigating the suspected murder-suicide of an estranged Waratah West couple this morning have confirmed there had been a history of ‘‘domestic incidents’’.
Police were called to the Adelaide Street home about 12.30am after receiving information from one of the couple’s relatives that the 39-year-old man was suicidal.
When they arrived they found the man and his 42-year-old estranged wife dead in the house.

Police have confirmed at a press conference this morning that they are treating the deaths as suspicious but have no other suspects.
Newcastle City investigations manager Detective Inspector Graeme Parker also confirmed there was a history of domestic incidents at the house but there were no apprehended domestic violence orders current.
Detective Inspector Parker said the deaths appeared to be ‘‘fairly immediate to police arrival’’ although autopsies will not be performed on the bodies until tomorrow.
Forensic and crime scene experts spent about eight hours at the house today before the bodies of the couple were taken to Newcastle Morgue.
Investigations are continuing.
