Two senior Wivenhoe dam engineers have stepped down, the Queensland government says.
Natural Resources Minister Rachel Nolan released a statement on Monday night saying Wivenhoe dam operator Seqwater informed the government two of its engineers were “no longer available to act in their roles”.
The statement did not name the engineers but said the current operation manuals for Wivenhoe, Somerset and North Pine Dams require Seqwater, during a flood event, to have two senior flood engineers approved by the the Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM).
The announcement coincides with Queensland’s flood inquiry which is investigating allegations four Wivenhoe dam engineers botched water releases, caused unnecessary flooding and misled the inquiry over what water release strategies they were working under.
In the meantime, former SunWater chief executive Peter Noonan will step in as a senior flood engineer at Seqwater.
