Woman dead, two in hospital after police pursuit across NSW-Victoria border

A WOMAN is dead and two people are in hospital following a police pursuit that began in NSW and crossed into Victoria yesterday.

Officers began chasing the Holden Astra after noticing it being driven erratically on Burrows Rd, Albury, at 12.20am. But they terminated the chase shortly after.

About five minutes later other officers spotted a car matching its description on nearby Burella Rd and signalled for it to stop.

The car, with three people inside, failed to stop and police chased the vehicle into Victoria.

A short time later the car rolled on the Murray Valley Highway east of the Kiewa Valley Highway at Bandiana.

A woman in the car died at the scene.

A man was taken to a Melbourne hospital with critical injuries, while a second woman was also taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A crime scene was established and police are assisting investigators from Victoria with the incident.

NSW police have also established their own critical incident investigation team to examine the circumstances surrounding the pursuit and crash.
