Temperatures in Queensland’s far west are expected to top 40C on Wednesday.
Birdsville reached 43.1C on Tuesday and the town is expected to hit 45C by Saturday but Birdsville Pub manager Gus Duffy is prepared.
Mr Duffy has put a sign up on the pub that reads: “Outside 47C. Inside 26C. Beer 0.2C. Your Choice”.
“It’s a lot of fun and yeah, it’s generated certainly a bit of interest,” he told ABC Radio.
Central Australia’s sweltering conditions are due to a high pressure system on the east coast of Australia and a low through the centre, whipping up hot winds in the trough between the two.
The system will push east as far as the Darling Downs by the weekend, bringing the heat to the rest of the state.
