Homicide detectives are looking for links between a violent home invasion in Melbourne’s south and a dead man dumped at a nearby hospital.
A homeowner was injured when men wearing hoodies and armed with a baseball bat entered his home at Somerville after 2am (AEDT) on Thursday.
“We know that at that location a 50-year-old man was confronted by three other men at his house,” Detective Inspector John Potter told reporters on Thursday.
“He was assaulted and he heard gunshots at the scene.”
Neighbours also reported hearing gunshots.
At 2.45am (AEDT) a young man covered in blood entered Frankston Hospital saying his friend had been injured.
About 300 metres down the road, the body of an unidentified man was found with a suspected gunshot wound.
Police are trying to identify the victim and the man who dropped him off at the hospital.
Police do not believe the 50-year-old homeowner and his 14-year-old son were linked to the shooting.
“We don’t believe they’re involved in that shooting but there’s a strong possibility that the two (incidents) are clearly connected,” Det Insp Potter said.
The homeowner is known to police.
