Flood alert issued for southern NSW

A flood alert has been issued for large areas of inland NSW, with a thickening cloud band expected to dump heavy rain.

Isolated thunderstorms occurred across the state’s southwest on Monday night.

The weather bureau expects clouds over that region of NSW to thicken into Tuesday, bringing more heavy rain.

Flash flooding is forecast for the Riverina, Lower Western, Upper Western, Snowy Mountain and South West Slopes regions on Tuesday and early Wednesday as the cloud band moves north and east.

Up to 100mm of rain is expected over some parts of southern NSW on Tuesday.

A flood alert remains in place for central western NSW with a large rain band expected to reach the Macquarie River and Lachlan River valleys.
