A 35-year-old man suffered burns to both legs and an arm at a Melbourne barbecue which he tried to light using flammable liquid.
The fire then spread to the attached garage and then to the roof of a single-storey brick veneer home at Mill Park in Melbourne’s north late on Friday afternoon.
Metropolitan Fire Brigade operations commander Michael Swift said this was a timely warning not to use any flammable liquids to start barbecues because the consequences can be severe.
The damage bill at the property is expected to top $70,000.
