A mentally ill Sydney man has been found guilty of murdering a 12-year-old girl and of the manslaughter of his 77-year-old father.
Renza Da Pra’s father Gino was bashed to death and dumped in a car boot and his neighbour, Emma Wighton, 12, died after her throat was cut in December 2009.
Da Pra admitted to the attacks but pleaded not guilty on the grounds of mental illness.
The jury heard the 48-year-old set himself alight after the killings in an attempt to commit suicide.
During his trial, the Supreme Court heard Da Pra believed a bikie group had made threats against his family and that, if he killed his father and himself, somehow his mother would be spared.
He has also been found guilty of trying to murder Emma Wighton’s grandmother.
After the jury delivered its verdicts for Da Pra, a man in the public gallery called him a “gutless low life”.
