Two Australian men stabbed in Bali bar fight over spilled drink

TWO Australian men have been treated for stab wounds in Bali following a fight at a bar in Kuta.

The two men were allegedly stabbed in the early hours of this morning during an altercation at the Bounty Discotheque on Jalan Legian, the same bar where former North Melbourne AFL coach Dean Laidley was hit over the head with a bottle in October.

One of the men was identified as Jake Benjamin Whitehead.

Bali Police spokesman Hariadi could not provide a last name for the second victim, identifying him only as Chris.

He said the incident occurred after the alleged attacker spilled a drink that belonged to one of the victims.

“He was asked to replace the drink, but then he got angry and there was a fight between the perpetrator and the victims,” Hariadi said.

“In that fight, one victim was stabbed in the stomach while the other one was cut on his chest and armpit.”

Mr Whitehead was treated at the Bali International Medical Centre in Kuta while the man identified as Chris was taken to Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar.

Hariadi said the identity of the attacker was not yet known, but that he was believed to be a foreigner.

“The police are still investigating the case. The police are still looking for the perpetrator and trying to establish his identity,” Hariadi said.

The bar where the incident occurred is located in a popular nightclub district in Kuta.

It is also near where an Australian teenager was electrocuted early this month while walking along the street.
