Police are investigating the suspicious death of a child at Westcourt last night. Anyone with information which could assist police with their investigations should contact Crime Stoppers.
A 27-year-old local woman has been charged following the death of an 8-year-old girl at a Westcourt residence last night.
Around 9.30pm, police attended a Mann Street residence where they discovered the deceased child.
The 27-year-old has been charged with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed and one count of torture.
She is due to appear before the Cairns Magistrates Court this afternoon.
Police investigations are continuing into the death.
