An advocate group for the disadvantaged has warned the Victorian government against cutting funding to frontline services in next month’s budget.
The Victorian Council of Social Service (VCOSS) says scores of representatives from frontline service providers will march on Parliament House on Wednesday to deliver the warning to state MPs.
VCOSS chief executive Cath Smith said that in uncertain economic times it was important that all sides of politics committed to funding services that help disadvantaged Victorians.
Ms Smith said many of the organisations were reporting a greater demand for their services due to increasing unemployment and job uncertainty.
“To compound these challenges, the slowed economic environment has also resulted in reduced corporate donations which are crucial to effective frontline service delivery,” she said.
