Bloody Battle Between African, Balkan Gangs in Small Swiss City

An ongoing conflict between gangs of Africans and Kosovars has led to a shooting in Delémont, a minor Swiss city near the French border.

Members of both groups engaged in battle on Sunday night, according to 20 Minutes.

Armed with bats, knifes, and other weapons, the rival factions squared off in the cantonal capital, population roughly 12,000.

A young man from Kosovo is believed to have opened fire on the Africans from a passing car, striking one male in the back, authorities say.

Fellow Africans shouted for local residents to open their doors and provide water and first aid remedies.

The wounded subject was transported to hospital in Basel and is expected to recover.

Jura cantonal police apprehended the suspected shooter and also the driver of the vehicle. The firearm is believed to have been smuggled in from Kosovo.

Both suspects are reportedly naturalized migrants serving as apprentices and are being touted as ‘well-integrated young people.’

“The occupants of the car can hardly claim to have acted in self-defense. This settling of scores has nothing to do with drug trafficking,” 20 Minutes reports. “The two clans have been confronting each other for several months.”

Locals now fear an escalation of retaliatory attacks in their city.

In nearby France, ethnic conflict is becoming increasingly common, with warring factions engaging in brutal battles involving dozens or hundreds of combatants.
